How funny! Jacqui entered a search for ‘Sea Creatures of Cape Leveque’ to try to help the boys identify the sea slug thingy we found and Google responded with an entry for DintersOnTour and a reference to the Turd-fish. As usual, we’re famous for all the wrong reasons.
After the hectic dash to Cape Leveque and back, we wanted today to be a fairly quiet and relaxed day so we headed to the beach at about 10am. 90 Minutes later as we headed off to town to book our Sunset Camel ride, it became clear to us, and everyone walking past us, that the sun had left its mark on Jacqui and I. The boys are fine as they’d been smothered in 30+ and they had their rash vests on but Jacqui and I just rushed off thinking we’d be fine. Clearly we’re not used to being this far north with the extra intensity the sun holds. It should make for an extra awkward night if the evening humidity kicks in, as has been the case here in Broome.
After a stop-off in town for an ice-cream, it was back to the shade-cloth covered pool and then some quite time before the sunset camel ride.
By 4:30, the excitement was too much for Jacqui and she began chasing us out the door and down onto Cable Beach. By 5:00pm we were standing next to camels. After a series of introductions (to the Camels), and then instructions, (from the handlers), we learnt that camels have two toes on each foot, that they have remarkable balance as they move both left feet together, (as do only three other animals on the planet), then both right feet, (or maybe hooves), and so on, and that a one-hump camel is called a dromedary. It was certainly an experience to see the sun set into the ocean from the hump of a camel and Jacqui and the boys had such great time, they are investigating the opportunity to herd camels across to Broom from Byron Bay, upon our return to Sydney. After the camel ride, we headed to the beachside Zanders restaurant for a spot of seafood with a glass of wine, before heading back to the van and a well earned rest. Tomorrow, we’re hunting Dinosaur.
Cheers,
Jorg
