Zachary Dinter turned 10 today and decided to begin the celebrations by falling out of bed at exactly 4am. I was woken by the loud thud as he hit the floor but fortunately, the injuries required only the application of a cold bottle from the esky, as all the ice had melted, and a bit of a cuddle before being shuffled back to bed. Birthdays never begin before 5am.
At exactly 5am, I woke again to the deafening stares of a 10 year old and after the fun of the present giving and a skype call from Omi & Opi in Sydney, (Zach’s nanna & pop on the Dinter side), we settled down to Zach’s chosen breakfast of pancakes with maple syrup. By 9 o’clock, we’d already spent an hour in the pool and watched the resident children head off to school.
By about 10, we’d made it to the local shops to pick up some diving masks and snorkels which we immediately tested in the pool. We’ll need to be proficient at these by the time we get to Ningaloo Reef. Lunch was followed by more pool time and we then spent the remainder of the afternoon hanging around. Thomas continued to show his dedication to completing a Harry Potter book, Zachary explored every aspect of his new ipod Nano, and Jacob woke from a nap to chase a group of 6 little girls around the vans. Jacqui had organised balloons and a cake for Zachary and after another skype call, (from Aunty Martina & Uncle David), followed by a brief tidy up, we headed into town for Zach’s chosen dinner of a Pizza. We’d planned to eat it on the beach but they’ve closed the access road while they continue to hunt the stray salty.
Zach seems to have had a good birthday and that makes the rest of us happy as we prepare to head for 80 Mile Beach in the morning.
Cheers,
Jorg
