Day 62 Esperance

Like most people, we had a fairly quiet start to New Years Day. We slept in for a while, then we had a lazy breakfast, and then I had a lazy, drawn out shave as the itch of 5 days growth was getting to me. Then, while we casually pulled the van down for a casual drive to Esperance, we had our guests from last night, Frank and Helen, come past for a relaxed and casual chin-wag. The outcome of all this casual and relaxed activity was that we didn’t get away from Starvation Bay until a little after 11am. Not that this was a problem in any way. Jacqui and I quite enjoyed not having to be up and out, in line with the usual 10am departure rule. It was nice to go a little slowly for a change.
We arrived at Esperance at about 12:30 and immediately made our way to the heart of town for a lazy lunch before we eventually tried the ocean front caravan park to see if they had space for us during the busiest week of their year. Surprisingly they did and we’re now ensconced in a very pleasant location not far from the water.
As we haven’t been able to shower for the past 4 days, after setting up, Jacqui made a mad dash for the amenities block and we boys followed fairly closely behind her. Once we were all tidied up, we had a quiet BBQ followed by a walk to the extremely long jetty about 2km down the road. Once we got there, we walked along the jetty, I attempted some photos in the 9pm darkness, (no daylight saving), without a flash, and then we walked back to the van. We didn’t really do much of anything today but never-the-less, we’re all pretty tired and keen for a good nights sleep.
Esperance looks like a great place with stacks of things for all of us to enjoy. The water and beaches look great, the wildlife and national parks look impressive and we’ve got a few shops around. The last one is important with Jacob turning 4 in just a few days. We’ll need a good nights sleep as we prepare for the hectic days ahead.
Cheers,
Jorg
