We began the day at Arkaroola before taking a leisurely drive to Leigh Creek. I lived in Leigh Creek about 40 years ago and while I realise they’ve since moved the town, I still wanted to go back for a look.
After restocking our supplies, we headed for Lake Eyre via the tourist section of the Leigh Creek Coal Mine. The boys were surprised to learn that my dad worked at the mine not long after we arrived in Australia and they enjoyed having a look around.
Back on the road through Lyndhurst and then Marree before joining the Oodnadatta Track and heading for William Creek and Lake Eyre. We’d planned on stopping at Coward Springs but the boys voted to keep going so we wouldn’t have to drive on Sunday, Tom’s birthday. Living in such isolation must play on the minds of some people.
We eventually arrived at the shores of the Lake and took a few pics. As you can see, we were both excited and hot.
Love the photo of the four boys...which one are you Jorg?
