Day 49 Monkey Mia

Only six times in the past eight years have the Dolphins failed to make an appearance for breakfast, here at Monkey Mia.
Make that 7 times.
At 7am, we began positioning ourselves at the prescribed location on the beach, amongst the 70 or 80 other tourists. Everyone chatted excitedly in hushed tones, and the anticipation that hung in the air was like a communal blanket under which we all huddled. Everyone was here for the same reason, but the main attraction had other plans.
We hung around at the wharf where the Dolphins normally turn up for maybe 2 hours, with no result. We sat on the sand for a while, then we began looking at the weird people sitting on the beach, (like us), and then we began listening in to their conversations. When it all got too much, we headed up to the wharf to get a different perspective of the weird people on the beach, so we hung around with the weird people on the wharf for a while. Eventually, a stray Turtle took pity on us all and stuck its head up out of the water. I’m sure the turtle has never felt so popular, with about 80 tourists all training their long lenses at one, sole turtle. Eventually we left but I checked the beach at about 11am and was surprised to see about 40 people, still waiting for the inconsiderate dolphins.
Jacqui was having a lazy day so we left her to have a morning nana-nap while the boys and I headed to the cafĂ© for a milkshake and a coffee. While we were there, Zach and I headed to the tour desk and booked a half day fishing charter for him and I, at 8am in the morning. It’s what Zach has been asking for as a part of his birthday celebrations since leaving Broom and while we had it planned for Coral Bay, the wind blew those plans out of the water.
After lunch, we made our way into Denham and I’m still wondering why we made the effort. What few attractions the town holds where closed so we made our way back to Monkey Mia and with the wind dying, we tested the beach.
A BBQ of sausages, bacon, and potato, followed by scrabble finished the evening nicely.
Cheers,
Jorg
