Day 73 Adelaide

It rained!

After 72 days of sunshine, with only 5 minutes of light drizzle at Alice Springs on day 20, we finally had some real rain. At 4am, Jacqui and I both woke up to the sound of drops landing on the roof of the van. We jumped out of bed and out the door to make sure our chairs were under cover and that we hadn’t left our towels out. Sadly, after what we’re certain was no more than 9 single drops of rain, it all stopped, and we went back to bed. It seems the weather God was just teasing.
At 6am, the weather God got serious and it began pouring. The boys woke up and asked us what the strange noise was. I was so excited to see the rain, I took pictures of it on the windscreen of the car which gave Jacqui a laugh and the boys enjoyed seeing the baby ducklings strolling around the vans in the wet. We sat around watching the rain come down and it didn’t get boring for a good hour. As the need to move around in the rain increased, our pleasure at finally seeing rain decreased. Our joy at living with a cooler temperature also disappeared fairly quickly and while reliving the 45+ of yesterday isn’t something we’re looking forward to, today’s drizzly 21 isn’t all that much fun either.
When we finally got moving, we headed out to the nearest Jeep service department to see if they could replace the front shock absorbers with Jeep originals. No chance for today so we headed off to the nearest Pedders where the owner confirmed that the front shocks are shot. He also can’t do them today but he’ll put in Connie Shocks for the same price as Jeep so he’s getting the work.
With us already being in town, we took the boys for coffee and cake at Rundle Mall and then to The Jam Factory to look at the pieces produced by last year’s graduation class. A little after midday, we were back at the van and we’ve all agreed that the city isn’t doing it for us. Maybe it’s just Adelaide but the quicker we get the car going and we’re on our way down The Great Ocean Road, the happier we’ll all be.
Cheers,
Jorg
