Day 28 Broome

The birds here are fantastic. I woke in the middle of the night feeling that somehow I’d fallen asleep in the botanical gardens somewhere. They made noises I’d never heard before and most seemed to have taken up residence in the trees surrounding our van. I drifted in and out of sleep through the night and I was surprised to finally wake completely at a little after 6am.
Being in Broome has Jacqui thinking of pearls in a new light. They’ve never been her favourite jewel but now she’s contemplating rings and necklaces that held little appeal for her in the past and considering where we are, I’m happy for her to continue to explore this new passion.
As we move closer to the wet season, the humidity here increases to rival and surpass Sydney. Today’s 37 degrees and 50% humidity seems significantly more stifling than the 43 degrees and 20% humidity we lived with in Alice.
Jacqui refreshed her exposure to the dark and freaky arts at the local markets. When we spotted the Tawny Frogmouthed Owl with newly hatched baby in the trees above the Magic Soap stand, well, I shoulda known it was gonna get weird. Every possible cure and treatment was on show along with sarongs, and leather contraptions no-one is ever going to wear outside of their home but never-the-less, she now feels adequately rejuvenated for the days ahead. She’s already scouting out a job here and has begun sounding out the management about maintenance opportunities. Some poor lady had to fight Jacqui off as she struggled to retain her hold on her blower-vac.
After a brief stop at Woollies to replenish the pantry, it was back to the pool and a quiet afternoon working out our plans for the coming days. We’ve agreed that we’ll find the time to explore Cape Leveque for a couple of days and now, all we need to confirm is which days to make the trip. A quick BBQ and some competitive scrabble between Jacqui and Zack finished the day. Tomorrow should see us indulging in a sunset camel ride on Cable Beach after a spot of fishing in the morning.
Cheers,
Jorg
