All hail the new Dinter Family Provider!
Zachary and I left Jacqui, Tom, and Jake asleep in the van to head off to Broome Wharf for an early fish. We changed the bait to octopus and threw the first line in at about 6:30, with immediate results. After a bunch of teasing nibbles followed by some aggressive bait theft, Zachary caught his 1st fish ever! We realised straight away that a 25cm Coral Trout, (I think??) wouldn’t feed the family and considering it had more than a passing resemblance to Nemo, (mainly around the eyes and lips), we decided to throw him back, but not until he’d agreed to pose for a family portrait.
We headed back to the van for breakfast with the rest of the displaced Dinters, and with the thermometer hitting a sticky 38 degrees by 10am, we headed off to try our luck driving along cable beach. As we left the beach carpark and touched the tyres to the sand, we noticed a sign indicating north of the rocks as clothing optional. With the few people on the beach politely spacing themselves about a kilometre apart, we decided to expand the reaches of our ever ripening tans and the boys certainly enjoyed the freedom. We all had sunblock on but somehow we now have parts that are decidedly……pink.
A little after lunch, we headed into town for a quiet lunch in the air-conditioning followed by a swim and an afternoon skype call to Martina and David, in Sydney.
Around dusk, we headed back into town for a rare treat. Broome has a unique cinema that harks back to the 1940’s. It’s essentially a cinema/shop frontage at the street, behind which sits a grassed area furnished with deck chairs, and a large movie screen on the back wall. It has no roof and it’s a once in a lifetime experience to watch a movie with great sound in what feels like someone’s tree lined back yard. Being right under the last reaches of the airport flight path, just prior to touch down, and having the local bat population swooping in to sample the Mango’s hanging off the tree at the fence during the main feature, makes the movies in Broome an even more exciting experience. All up, it’s been a great day.
Cheers,
Jorg
