One of the less attractive things about camping or caravaning for any length of time is that you get to see all these strange people, first thing in the morning, just after they get out of bed. The communal bathrooms can bring a man fully awake a little faster that might normally be the case. At times, it concerns me that to some people, I may look as disowned and feral as some of them look to me. Seeing people before they do their hair and before they manage to fully put their clothes on is best kept within the confines of the family group, where the legal arrangements of marriage, and birth records keep us from sharing our true thoughts on the visions before us. Crooked toupee’s, removable teeth, and mysteriously un-zipped zippers, along with too short or too transparent, pink satin robes are best kept behind locked doors, for the exclusive consumption of the legally committed.
After breakfast, I took Jake to the playground and then we headed into the adjoining town of Jurian Bay where we found an IGA supermarket and proceeded to fill a trolley with all the seasonal goodies we could lay our hands on. Christmas lunch for the Dinters will be smoked salmon, smoked ham, prawns, puddings and chocolates followed by cheeses, pâtés, and fruits, all washed down with champagne, beer and wine, while the 3 boys hopefully enjoy playing with whatever bounty Santa bestows upon them.
Before getting too deep into the preparations for Christmas Day, we headed down to the other end of the park where we spent a few hours playing around on the protected beach to the North-West of the town. We’re starting to get the hang of the water ball as we skim it across the surface at each other. Today, we managed to get through a session without anyone being nailed in the eye, thereby avoiding the tears that I found a little embarrassing on previous occasions.
We settled down for a quiet afternoon before beginning our Santa prep. Jacob collected all his dummies and wrapped them up for Santa but not before having a final suck on each individual dummy, followed by a short note to Santa asking that he pass them on to the baby Australian animals, for Christmas. The boys settled down to watch the Rudolf movie and we then grabbed a pizza to save on too much tidying before the big day.
After dinner, we set the Christmas table with table-cloth and tree and put out the Beer and cookies for Santa, and the carrot for Rudolph. Our preparations seem to be complete with Jacqui having done a wonderful job ensuring we all have a Christmas as magical in Cervantes as we would normally enjoy at Mona Vale. All we need now is for Santa to find our little van before dawn.
Merry Christmas,
Jorg, Jacqui, Zach, Tom & Jacob.
